Saline Troops 439 and 416 Inspiring Cub Scouts at the Annual Pinewood Derby Workshop
In early January 2026, Saline, Michigan, Scouting America troops 439 and 416 held the annual Pinewood Derby workshop for the local Cub Scout packs. The weekend had a positive outlook, with over 60 Cub Scouts participating. In previous years, an average of 20 Cub Scouts participated, illustrating how this event was a major success in terms of Cub Scout participation and impactfulness on the Cub Scout packs.
The event supported Cub Scouts in developing their Pinewood Derby cars, and also inspired Cub Scouts to continue their scouting journey and build relations with the local Scouting America troops 439 and 416. Mo, a member of Scouting America troop 439, recognizes this, expressing how the Cub Scouts had a positive experience in collaboration with the older scouts. They said, “They get a lot of hands-on experience in building the cars. It’s a good service opportunity allowing for more collaboration with Cub Scouts.” This shows how the event was both an impactful experience for the Cub Scouts and allowed the older scouts to connect with the younger generation of scouting.

Scouts of all ages gathered to create and assist in the creation of Pinewood Derby cars, which allowed Cub Scouts to express creativity and collaborate with local Scouting America troops. Many scouts had participated in the Pinewood Derby as Cub Scouts, so this was a memorable event for all scouts participating. Scouting America troop 416 scout Chadi says, “It was fun to meet new Cub Scouts. This event was great for recruiting, and multiple Cub Scouts will be joining us at our campout next week.” This demonstrates how the event is building new relations between the scouting troops, strengthening our scouting community in Saline.
In conclusion, this event was more than a scouting activity; it allowed for hands-on collaboration and inspired the Cub Scouts to advance in their scouting journey, strengthening our community and positively impacting our scouting programs.
